This one slipped under my radar in recent weeks. At the end of each calendar year, TIME Magazine publishes many Top 10 lists ranging from the best movies and albums to the most outstanding books of the year just passed.
Australian playwright Andrew Bovell’s stunning drama When The Rain Stops Falling, which played to full houses in several Australian cities throughout 2009 and went on to receive critical acclaim at the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater at New York’s Lincoln Center in March last year, has topped TIME Magazine’s list of best plays and musicals for 2010.
When I saw this work at the Melbourne Theatre Company in October 2009, I recall a powerful experience at the theatre, where I felt privileged to witness a beautifully written and complex gem of a play.
