Comics For Drama

Here’s an activity that may keep your Drama students entertained on a rainy day. Make Beliefs Comix is a great website that allows any user to create their own comic strip without the hassle of creating an account or logging. Once completed, comics can be emailed to yourself or a friend, or printed for fun.

Make Beliefs Comix have a fair array of background settings, background colours, props, captions and character types for the creation of comics. Each character has a range of emotions available that alter the context of the scene.

I am the last person on this earth to read comics (or fully understand them, for that matter), but that doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate their value. I created a simple four-strip cartoon about taking Drama students to the theatre for the first time (located in this post) that took me all of ten minutes.

I think junior students could have a bit of fun creating their own cartoons on something “dramatic” for Drama class. Perhaps a cartoon storyboard of the plot for their drama play? Even just playing around with the different emotions for the cartoon characters is an exercise in understanding feelings and facial expressions for the stage.
