Drama Victoria Conference 2013
I hope local readers of The Drama Teacher have booked one or two days for the upcoming Drama Victoria conference at The University of Melbourne this Thursday and Friday. The largest annual conference of its type in Australia, the Drama Vic conference represents a great opportunity for drama and theatre teachers in Melbourne and regional Victoria to network with colleagues in other schools and attend exciting workshops on everything from Japanese Noh theatre to dramaturgy.
For VCE Drama teachers out there, I’ll be running a session at this year’s conference with current Drama Vic president, Eli Erez, on the revised VCE Drama course starting next year. Eli and I will go through all the changes that have been made to the Study Design, run some fun practical activities as a means of exploring our content in the workshop, and answer any questions. This workshop will run on Thursday afternoon and will be repeated on Friday afternoon because we anticipated high demand … and we were right …. there’s going to be a lot of us …. but we are in a huge space, so its all good!
This year we also have a theatre forum where companies will spruik their 2014 shows and the VCAA will officially launch the 2014 VCE Drama and Theatre Studies Unit 3 and 4 Playlists. I’ll be facilitating this forum after lunch on Friday.
Exciting news regarding another forum will also be announced at this year’s conference. A brand new Drama Victoria online forum will be announced as ready to go for members of Drama Victoria. This forum will represent a wonderful opportunity for teachers to be a part of an online community of like-minded practitioners in our subject discipline, where we can share resources and thoughts together, answer people’s queries and post useful information to share with colleagues. I’ve been involved with the set up of this forum behind the scenes. The new online forum will be securely password-protected.
Hope to see you at the conference!
