Proof the jukebox musical is still alive and kicking, 90s British band Spice Girls have announced a December 11 opening on London’s West End of Viva Forever!, the stage musical.
The show is written by Jennifer Saunders, best known for her contribution to the popular British comedy French and Saunders. The plot involves four girlfriends who form a band and successfully enter a television talent show. The main character, Viva (oh, please!), lives on a houseboat with her adopted mother. Viva wins the talent show, leaving her girlfriend band members behind.
There! Now you know the plot, there’s no need to go see the show! Oh, that’s right, there IS NO PLOT worth writing about in a jukebox musical! Strike the previous paragraph, then. Done.
If you’re still interested, check out the launch video below, in which you’ll see more facelifts and botox than an LA film set. This video is also where the show’s producer Judy Craymer (best known for her surprisingly similar jukebox concept Mamma Mia! that made her a very rich woman indeed) at one point referring to Viva Forever as a PLAY. Mmmm. Say no more.
