The New York Times reports the producers of the critically acclaimed play, War Horse, have made a difficult decision to close the show on Broadway on January 6 next year.
The production was due soon to close for 8-10 weeks and recast the show. But falling ticket sales over recent months and the costs of temporarily closing appeared financially unviable.
War Horse won five Tony’s on Broadway, including Best Play. The show is due to open its Australian run in Melbourne this December, before moving to Sydney and then Brisbane through to August 2013.
