Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts

In the recent school holidays, I travelled over to Perth for a spot of sightseeing and while I was there I made sure I visited the fantastic Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts.

WAAPA (as it is affectionately known) is part of Edith Cowan University and only a short drive from the CBD of Perth.

WAAPA runs some of the best performing arts tertiary courses in Australia, in areas such as:

  • Aboriginal Theatre
  • Acting
  • Arts Management
  • Broadcasting
  • Dance
  • Music
  • Music Theatre
  • Production and Design

I’ve had one ex-student go through the Music Theatre course at WAAPA in recent years and not only did she love every minute of her time there, but successfully found work in the industry after the completion of her studies.

Unfortunately it was university vacation when I visited WAAPA, but I was wrapt to receive an impromptu private tour of what was happening at the time, which included visiting some prop and set construction and checking out some of the facilities on campus. Here’s a few happy snaps…
