Wicked Returns To Melbourne
The world’s most successful musical of the past decade, Wicked, is set to return to Australia, opening at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in May 2014.
Wicked opened at Broadway’s Gershwin Theatre on Halloween 2003 and ever since has only had a single competitor (The Book of Mormon) as the top grossing Broadway show.
Wicked’s initial Australian leg began in Melbourne in 2008, finishing three years later in Perth. The untold story of the witches of Oz will begin an Australasian tour in New Zealand this September and arrive in Melbourne in May 2014 for a limited run, with other Australian cities to follow.
The interstate Melbourne-Sydney arts rivalry continues. Melbourne acquired the opening of King Kong Live On Stage in June this year and Wicked next year, while Sydney will see the Australian return of one of the most successful musicals of all time, The Lion King, in December this year.
